M3 DS Simply - REVIEWED

M3 DS Simply

Good Points - Slot 1 device (Perfect fit), Nice design, Use of micro SD, Cheap compared to others
Bad Points - Build quality not the best, no longer comes with white casing :(

The first Homebrew solution we had on the site was the ds xtreme. That was a single slot solution for the DS and here is another one. Its main rival in the Field the M3 DS Simply. Simply put it is a great bit of kit. Its very easy to use with the drag and drop interface so putting programs on the card is simple. The advantage of this card over its rivals is the use of Micro SD for storage. Storage can be upgraded to your hearts content up to a maximum of 2GB.
The software it comes with is also excellent and includes little things like a NDS rom trimmer which is great for them big games. The only bad points is the build quality. Not as nice as the DS Xtreme but for the price the M3 DS Simply is put at, no one can really complain.

Touch The Dead - REVIEWED

Touch The Dead

Publisher - Eidos Interactive
Good Points - Easy to play, Fun while it lasts, Not bad graphics
Bad Points - Rail like gameplay, Too easy, Lack of replay value
Rating - 6 Stars ******

After the mild success of Point Blank, the next game to enter the "light gun" genre is touch the dead. Touch the dead is a fun and well executed game. The graphics are ok to good at time with it being all in 3d. Although you get to see the gun as if it was a first person shooter, it has the game play of a light gun game. The game is a bit on the short side but it is fun and that is the main reason why people play the DS. It has a Co-op mode so you can hook up another DS and battle the zombies with a friend.

The problem with these type of games are the lifespan and as with point blank you will be done with this in a couple of hours. But while it lasts, Touch the dead is fun and thats all that really matters.

DS - Xtreme - REVIEWED

DS - Xtreme

Good Points - Excellent build quality, great online support via forums, nice menu design, flashing lights
Bad Points - Storage is not great, Pricey

After reviewing a couple of games on this site, i have decided to also start reviewing some hardware and software that you can get your hands on for your DS. A good place to start is the nice white cart in the picture called the DS - Xtreme. The DS - Xtreme provides a single one slot solution for the DS with no need for a passcard. This drive is very well built and has many good features. It has homebrew support and can play video and music files. A nice little gimmick are the flashing lights that flash to the beat of a song that is played.

The card is very popular amongst DS gamers and has sold out many times on various sites. But with all of its good comes its bad. The most notable thing is the amount of storage. 512MB is just simply not enough storage space. Unlike some other cards that use removable storage, this card doesn't and it just doesn't feel like its enough. Also it is only usb compatible and some would argue this is a tedious way of placing apps onto the card. The card is also quite pricey and that has put some people off.

Want to buy the DS Xtreme? Visit Divineo.com

Overall it is a good card and i would recommend, but if you need more storage, think elsewhere.

Pokemon Diamond/Ruby - REVIEWED

Pokemon Diamond/Pearl

Publisher - Nintendo
Good Points - Fantastic replay value, Huge game, Great gameplay and story
Bad Points - More use of the stylus would of been nice
Rating - 9 Stars *********

This was probably the game that most DS owners were waiting for. After the success of all of the previous Pokemon games, there was no doubt that a release of Pokemon on the DS was inevitable. The execution of the game is near perfection. The story is fantastic and engrossing, the battles are strategic and fun and the graphics are the best we have seen in a Pokemon game.

It has more Pokemon than ever before and more gadgets than before which make it a great game for all ages. The multi player modes are well done allowing you to trade Pokemon and battle between friends and others across the world via wi-fi. The only letdown of this game would be the use of the stylus or more the lack of it. A better use would of been good but overall the game is as you would want it to be. If you want a game for your DS that will immerse you, then get this

Theme Park DS - REVIEWED

Theme Park DS

Publisher - EA Games
Good Points - Effective use of stylus, Long life game play, A PC classic on the DS
Bad Points - Game hasn't really changed from the PC original
Rating - 7 Stars *******

Theme Park was originally a release on the PC and was met with worldwide acclaim. Now after many years the game is converted to the DS for handheld gameplay. All of the PC originals are present (apart from the music :( which was great) with a few extras like staff training, etc.

Gameplay is at a good level with there being many difficulty settings to undertake. The graphics are clear and keep with the theme of the type of game it is. Some might complain that the game hasn't changed since its original release on the PC but to be able to play a classic on the DS is worth it. The game also implements the DS wireless functions to good effect so this game is worth a look if you haven't played Theme Park before.
